Award Categories and Criteria

Caregivers Award Categories

Professional Caregivers Award - Nominees could be nurses, therapists, social workers, pharmacists, dietitians or chaplains for a MAHC member who have exemplified a dedication to the provision of quality care through longevity, dependability, commitment, strong "team spirit," sensitivity to the needs of a client, professionalism in dealing with difficult clients or other high performance standards. Up to four awards may be awarded each year.

Paraprofessional Caregivers Award - Nominees could include homemaker/companions, personal care attendants, HME and IV technicians, home health aides, nurse aides, etc. who have exemplified a dedication to the provision of quality care through longevity, dependability, commitment, strong "team spirit," sensitivity to the needs of a client, professionalism in dealing with difficult clients or other high performance standards. Up to four awards in this category could be given each year.

Above and Beyond Caregiver Award - Given periodically to a caregiver who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in providing care and has demonstrated commitment and dedication to patient care. Nominee must have demonstrated exemplary courage in an unusual situation or experienced extremely adverse conditions when making a home visit. The person receiving this award should illustrate special characteristics of heroism or valor.

Physician of the Year Award - Given to recognize the home care or hospice physician who has excelled in the promotion or utilization of home care or hospice services.

Awards for Other Staff Members

Administrative Support Staff Award - Nominees include any support staff employee whose actions have significantly improved the operations of their company through efficiency, problem solving, productivity, creativity, innovation or exhibiting exemplary "team spirit." Nominations must identify a specific outcome from the actions of this employee.

Volunteer Award - This award category gives home care and hospice providers an opportunity to honor a valuable volunteer who has demonstrated commitment and dependability or has been involved in an event or situation which has made a real difference in the lives of your client or the client’s family. Criteria for this award include length of service, number of volunteer hours, or a involvement in some meaningful event or situation.

Awards for Service to the Industry

Leadership Award - Awarded for special service to the home care industry in the areas of education, research, improvement of patient care or to those who have contributed notably toward the advancement or impact on the home care industry in Missouri, initiated or participated in activities promoting quality home care at the national, state or local level, or demonstrated outstanding personal and professional leadership qualities.

Public Servant Award - This award provides an opportunity to recognize elected officials, state or federal employees or other public servants who have demonstrated an understanding of home care issues, worked toward improving the quality of home care or created sound public policy aimed at the preservation of independence, dignity and autonomy for home care clients.

Community Support Award - Given in recognition of a local community organization or individual for efforts in promoting awareness of, the value of, and/or importance of home care services in the community. Possible nominees may include: local media, civic volunteer or fundraising organizations, individuals who have advocated for or brought attention to the benefits of home care.

Susan Jenkins Award - Nominees will include any individual who displays pioneer spirit, willingly represents and supports all home care and hospice services and companies, understands and demonstrates through actions and words that home care is better for the patient, payer and society and who believes that necessary health services should be provided to those needing them and strives to achieve that goal. Current members of the MAHC Board of Directors are not eligible for this award.
